Part 1 - Capilano Suspension Bridge Park
We grabbed our coffee, waited a couple minutes and the bus came to pick us up. Wesley and I immediately had flashbacks to when we were playing college sports because if you played college sports too you know you always traveled in those fancy travel buses. The trip up takes about 20 minutes in total after a few more pick up stops. We had a really nice lady bus driver who was wired up with a microphone enabling her to give us a little play by play of some of the areas we drove through on the way up. I'll be honest I was never good at listening to things like that so I couldn't tell you the first thing about anything she explained to us. I was too busy just kind of gazing out the window, still enjoying my Timmy Hoes!
The ride up was pretty easy and our plan was to ride back down. Realistically we figured we'd be spending most of the day there. I just imagined it was this big park where we could really kill the day. It didn't really turn out like that though. It was the one thing I did hear the lady say that you could probably do the whole park in about 2 hours at a casual pace.
So what is the Capilano Suspension Bridge park? Well, it's most famously known for the being one of the world's largest suspension bridges. It's 450 feet (137m) across and 230 feet (70m) above the Capilano River. Seriously it's no joke.

This was just before we started making our way across. |
It's the only way across to the rest of the suspension bridges (which are much smaller and not as scary), and of course it's the only way back once you cross. If you successfully cross it and come back you even get a fancy certificate!! See I did it!!
The park is really cool though. There are a lot of the different suspension bridges to walk across, some that are set pretty high up in the trees. It's basically one big long path through a whole bunch of these.

They weren't really that scary LOL |
The scenery up there was gorgeous though and the trees were just unbelievable how big some of them were. Because there was so many people going through it really kind of did push us along through the course of bridges. I mean it was a lot of the same through each of them to be honest. Here are a couple more cool shots of the main bridge and some of the trees.
The last part of the park is the newly added cliff walk. It's exactly what it sounds like!! It's a big wrapping walk way (one direction only, so no you can't get out there and be a freekin chicken and back out and try and go back. You have to keep walking) It was pretty trippy, I'm not going to lie. It's a metal bar bridge with glass sides and bottom on some parts so that you can literally see beneath you. Highly recommend that if you don't like heights you better either chicken out on this and leave your buddies to go ahead of you or seriously for the love of god do not look down!! I looked down, it brought my heart rate up a little bit. I powered through though. YOLO baby.....YOLO!! Bucket list, check! Here are some snapshots of the cliff walk area.
Side note, the lady taking this picture was horrible. I don't know what she did to the settings when she was taking pics but I literally had to spend like 30 mins in photoshop to color it to even see our faces! Thanks though lady, and you're welcome for the REALLY awesome pictures I did for you and your husband! |
Seriously I looked down, it was horrible! |
So that's about all for now, I'm going to split up the adventure day into another post, mostly because I wanted to get some pictures in for explanation purposes and this is going to get way too long. Just wait though, this adventure as cool as it was because it didn't take us a whole day led us to part 2 of day 3. Can't wait to tell you about the next part of the day up to Grouse Mountain!! Oh and just you wait for when I get to tell you about the worst meal experience I've ever had it my life. It's a really knee slapper!! That will come in a post all itself as well!
Until then...
xoxo,
M-EFF
